Biography
Torcuato Mariano was born in Buenos Aires,
Argentina.
When he was 14 he mooved to Brazil and started
to study music with Claudio Gabis who introduced him to Rio de
Janeiro's music scenario.
Torcuato Mariano started to perform with famous
artists such as Johnny Alf, a great "Bossa Nova" legend.
Torcuato Mariano, already known in the
brazilian music scenario, begins his professional career
playing with artists such as Lobao, Cazuza, Ritchie e Marcos
Sabino.
Torcuato Mariano plays on Marina Lima's album
called "Virgem".
With his partner Cláudio Rabello, Torcuato
Mariano starts to write some hits for great artists such as
Rosana, Cheyanne, Yuri, Xuxa and others.
Torcuato writes the openning theme of the
"Rainha da Sucata" soap opera for the Rede Globo (TV station),
"Me Chama Que Eu Vou", sang by Sidney Magal and he gets the
Sharp Award as Best Pop Composer of the year.
Torcuato Mariano performs with Gal Costa in
Brazil and Japan
Torcuato Mariano plays at the Free Jazz
Festival (Rio de Janeiro) with the sax player Leo Gandelman
sharing the night Chick Corea.
Torcuato begins a big tour in Europe performing
with Ivan Lins.
Torcuato Mariano becomes one of the most
required musicians in Rio de Janeiro playing and recording
with artists such as Sérgio Mendez, Ney Matogrosso, Flávio
Venturini and Gal Costa.
Torcuato get into Djavan's band on the "Oceano"
tour.

the american radios with the song "Last Look".

Torcuato Mariano is among the 17 top played
songs of the year in american radios.
The album "Last Look" is one of the best jazz
albuns of the year according to the
publication Radio Active.
The album "Last Look"is one of the 27 best jazz
albuns of 1995 according to NAC Top95.
Torcuato Mariano plays at Mistura Fina, Rio de
Janeiro, with Pedro Aznar and Rique
Pantoja.
Torcuato Mariano is among the Top 10 played
artists of "New Age", according to Billboard.
The albuns "Paradise Station" and "Last Look"
conquer Japan and appears on the japanese "Jazz Life Year
Book" catalog.
Torcuato Mariano plays at Free Jazz Festival
as a special guest of Ernestine Anderson.
Torcuato with DJ Memê, produces Fanzine,
including the hit "História de Amor", one of the top played
themes of the soap opera also called "História de Amor". The
song is a success in Brazil! This project became a reference
as one of the best R&B productions.
Torcuato Mariano gets the 5th place at american
radios with the song "Ocean Way".
The Windham Hill label releases a double CD
with a selection of songs of its main artists to celebrate its
20 years. Torcuato Mariano is one of the selected artist to
the project and the album "Centuary: 20 years of Windham Hill"
gets the 4th place at Billboard.
Torcuato Mariano produces the albuns "Obrigado"
(Fábio Jr.), "Beija-Flor" (Flávio Venturini) and "Bebadachama"
(Paulinho da Viola).
Torcuato Mariano gets the Sharp Award as the
Best Samba Producer for producing the album "Bebadachama"
(Paulinho da Viola).
Torcuato gets compliments from the producer
Eumir Deodato for his album "Last Look" at Groove Magazine.
Torcuato Mariano produces the live Fabio
Junior's album and the song "Só Você"
(arranged and played by Torcuato) becomes a hit
in Brazil.
1998 was a year full of changes and challenges.
Torcuato was invited to take on the Artistic Direction of EMI
where stayed until 2002. Torcuato Mariano developed several
projects and successful artists such as Jorge Vercilo,
Natiruts, Flavio Venturini, Belo, Art Popular, Exaltasamba,
Soweto, Legião Urbana and Carlinhos Brown.

for his 3rd album "Diario".
Torcuato produces 2 tracks of Belo's album
"Desafio" from which the track "Tua Boca" becomes a big hit in
Brazil.

recording and mixing the CD´s singer and composer, Isabella
Taviani lauches her CD and the song called "Foto Polaroid"
(Green Songs) gets the first places on the radios.
April
Torcuato
Mariano performs at the "Fome Zero" concert in Recife, in
proud of Tom Jobim, playing with Zizi Possi, Leila Pinheiro,
Toni Garrido and Paulo Mikos beside the musicians: Paulo
Calasans, Glauton Campello, Marcelo Martins, André
Vasconcelos, Armando Marcal and Cláudio Infante.
Torcuato
comes back to the studio to finish the production of the
singer and composer Marcela Biasi´s CD to belaunched by EMI.
May
Torcuato
performs at the University Estácio de Sá Jazz Festival.
June
Torcuato
finished the recording and mixing sessions of Marcela Biasis´s
CD.
August
Torcuato
Mariano finishes his new CD called "Diário" (Diary) to be
launched in Q1/2004.
September
The song "Pra Lembrar de Nós" from the new
Flávio Venturini´s CD, produced by Torcuato Mariano, becomes a
hit in the Rede Globo´s souup opera "Chocolate com Pimenta".
Torcuato goes to a Northern Tour with Flávio
Venturini.
